This is the original. Started 15 years ago, San Diego's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon is a certified course and an official "qualifier" for the Boston Marathon and is expected to attract more than 20,000 runners for this year's race. Runners usually enjoy perfect running weather with average temperatures on the day of the races ranging from 60-70 degrees, a fast, scenic tour of some of San Diego's most beautiful areas, and entertainment and motivation provided by 45 bands, 2000+ cheerleaders, and over 100,000 enthusiastic spectators lining the route.

The weekend also includes a two day Health & Fitness Expo where you'll find the latest in gear, services and apparel. The race begins on the west end of San Diego's beautiful Balboa Park, where runners will pass through Uptown before heading south to get an expanded tour of downtown past Petco Park, through the historic Gaslamp Quarter, and alongside the San Diego Harbor and down Broadway Avenue. Then the course travels up beautiful Highway 163, and winds through bayside and beach communities and past Sea World and finishes on the Parade Deck at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Point Loma where there will be a post-race festival featuring live bands. So lace up your running shoes, train hard, and come join the fun.

San Diego County Fair 2011

June 8 - July 4, 2011. - Del Mar Fairgrounds. (Closed Mondays)

The San Diego County Fair returns June 8 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, just 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego. It is the largest annual event in San Diego County and the sixth largest fair in the United States, drawing more than 1.3 million visitors annually. The San Diego County Fair 2010 attendance was 1,338,500, an all-time record.

This year's theme is "Out Of This World" an exploration of outer space  — the wonder of the universe and our efforts to explore it, as well as the fun and imaginative world of science fiction and visitors from other planets! With entertainment throughout each day on multiple stages, this year's entertainers include Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Grand Funk Railroad, KC and the Sunshine Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Scotty McCreery, Comedians Jeff Dunham and Gabriel Iglesias just to name a few.

Food is one of the many reasons people visit the San Diego County Fair. Not only can you find the traditional "Fair fare," you'll also find some surprising upscale dining and sipping experiences, plus food "events." View a San Diego Fair Map.

San Diego Comic-Con International

July 12-15, 2012

Comic-Con has become the premiere event for comic art, film, and science fiction. The biggest show of the year keeps growing in popularity and attendance and is always a visitor favorite. San Diego LGBT Pride Weekend

Friday - Sunday, July 20-22, 2012, San Diego, CA 

One of the largest and most entertaining such events in the country, Gay Pride San Diego draws some 50,000 spectators and participants to a massive festival, and more than 165,000 spectators for a huge parade. The official celebration starts Friday, July 20th 2012, the parade is Saturday, and then the festival is all weekend wrapping up on Sunday, July 22 hosting folks from around California and around the country.

The theme for the 38th Annual Pride Celebration weekend announced by Dwayne Crenshaw, executive director of San Diego LGBT Pride, is "The promise of America grounded in the Constitution, contained in our Pledge of Allegiance, inscribed on the Statue of Liberty and enunciated by generations of our nation's leaders is that America stands for liberty, for justice, for equality for all. This has been America's Pride,"

The San Diego Gay Pride Parade has more than 200 floats and contingents and features a variety of awards in different categories (most creative entry from a local business, top musical marching contingent, most entertaining and crowd-pleasing float, and so on). The parade begins on Saturday at 11 am, and runs along University Avenue, from Normal Street and 6th Avenue.

San Diego Pride's famous cultural Festival includes multiple stages of entertainment, more than 80 musicians, bands, comedy and dance performers, 300 participating vendor booths, an Art exhibit, cultural presentations, and great food! Highlights include: 3 Stages, Farmers Market, Dance Floors, Beer Gardens, Wine Grotto, Cool Zone for those 55+, Leather Realm, Art of Pride (LGBT local artists), Youth Zone, Children's Garden, and over 300 vendors.We invite families, youth, and people of all ages to participate in the annual Pride Festival.
